This is a list of the Old  Green Hill minutes as they were written at the turn of the century.  All wording has been transcribed exactly as they were written over 100 years ago. Most of the original minutes prior to 1900 have been lost or misplaced.  Listed below are the minutes that have survived the years and posted on this website for historical preservation.

 

PREAMBLE

 

We the citizens of  Green Hill Community in order that we may show the love and veneration that we have for our dead, organized into a Cemetery Association, do hereby ordain and establish for our government the following Constitution and by laws.

 

CONSTITUTION

 

Art. 1.  Name.  The Organization shall be known as The  Green Hill Cemetery Association.

Art. 2. Membership.  Any white person interested in the Cemetery may become a member of this Association.

Art. 3. Officers. The officers of this Association consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Art 4.   Sec. 1 – President.  The president shall preside over all meetings of the Association, in all tie votes he shall cast the deciding ballot.  He shall enforce all the rules and regulations of this Association.  He shall appoint all regular committees.

            Sec. 2 – Vice President.  In absence of the president, all duties and functions of this office shall descend upon the Vice President.

            Sec. 3 – Secretary.  The Secretary shall call the roll at each regular meeting of the Association and shall make a full record of the proceedings of each meeting, and shall read at the regular meeting for correction and approval and after approval, he shall record the same in the Minute Book in black ink.  The Secretary shall be prepared at any time to give information to the Association in regard to any important business that may have been transacted at any previous meeting.

            Sec. 4. Treasurer.  The Treasurer shall take charge of all the money paid into the Association and shall pay it out only by the order of the Association.  He shall at the expiration of his term of office and when called upon give a full report of the condition of the treasury.  He shall collect all dues and assessments.

Art. 5.  Election of Officers- The election of officers shall be by ballot and shall be held ob Friday before the first Sunday of each May.  A majority of votes shall be necessary to elect a nominee.  The term of office shall be for one year. 

Art. 6   Committees- Sec. 1 – Allotment Committee.  The President upon assuming the duties of his office shall appoint a committee (number to be left to the discretion of the President) to serve one official term to designate the places where people shall bury their dead.

            Sec. 2 – Ways and Means Committee.  The President shall appoint a committee (number to be left to his discretion) to devise ways and means for raising money for the use of the Association.

            Sec. 3 – Identification Committee.  The President shall appoint a committee (number left to his discretion) to identify each grave and secure lumber and place a neat head board with the name neatly painted thereon at each grave.

            Sec. 4 – Decoration Committee.  The President shall appoint a committee (number left to his discretion) to select flowers and shrubbery for the Cemetery, and select the place for and superintend the planting of these flowers and shrubbery.

Art. 7. Resignations. Any officer wishing to resign shall present to the Association his regulation in writing.

Art. 8. Amendments, etc. – No part of the Constitution shall be amended or suspended except by a two-third vote of the members present.

 

BY LAWS

 

Art. 1. This Association shall meet every three months at  Green Hill Church.  Time to be selected by a majority of members.

            Sec. 2 – Upon the request of five members of the Association, the President may call a meeting at any time.

Art. 2.  All persons who are interested in the welfare of the Cemetery are requested to have their names enrolled so that the Association may know definitely its strength.

Art. 3.  Quorum.  Ten members of this Association shall constitute a quorum.

 

Art. 4. Any officer or committeeman failing to discharge his duty without a good excuse shall be fined fifty cents.

House call to order by W.O. Marshall.  Opened by prayer by Ms. J.A. Pollard. 

Minutes read from last meeting.  Unfinished business attended to. 

Committee elected to get lumber to put head boards to unknown parties in graveyard.  Ms. C.M. Gingles, C.C. Black, and J.A. Pollard.  Collection for that purpose, $4.30.  Offices:  President, Seab Johnson; Vice President, A.W. Slaughter; Secretary; Miss Lela Marshall; Treasurer , Miss Battie Johnson. 

The committee of ladies to get shrubbery for the graveyard: Mrs. Grigsby, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Black, Mrs. Pollard. Rev. M.P. Slaughter and Mss Tex Wood for the arrangement of the program for next time.

New Business.  Friday before the first Sunday in May.

Committee of six men to get money to fence the Cemetery.  J.H. Hood, L.A. Wallace, R.G. Batte, T.H. Black, A.W. Slaughter, R.S. Hood, and J.A. Pollard. Business closed.

Minutes- Minutes in the last meeting.  House called to order by W.O. Marshall.  Proceeded with program for the day.  Election of new officers.  Nominated for president: Lon Hall and W.A. Baxley.  Lon Hall elected President.  W.A. Baxley elected Vice President.  Miss Johnson elected Secretary, Miss Bessie Slaughter elected Treasurer.  Bo report of committees.  Committee of ladies to superintend to planting of shrubbery was appointed.  Committee appointed to put headboards to unknown graves: C.C Black, W.R.M. Slaughter, and W.A. Baxley.  Adjourned.

Minutes – House called to order by President Seab Johnson. W.T Cameron was appointed Secretary (protem).  The various committees were heard from.  The first committee that was appointed to secure lumber to mark the unknown graves made their report, and committees continued.  Second – fencing committee made their report.  $7.75 collected.  Third – Shrubbery committee made no report.  Committees discharged.  Association went into the election of officers for the next ensuing year which resulted in the election of the same officers with once exception.  W.T. Cameron being elected Secretary.  Saturday before the second Sunday in July was appointed to meet and work the graveyard and mark unknown graves.  To fence the cemetery before August, 1900.  Committee appointed to arrange program for next regular meeting- Misses Minnie Hood, Lela Johnson, W.T. Cameron.  By motion, it was agreed that business meeting should be first on program.  L.A. Wallace was appointed as a special committee to arrange for the music.  There being no further business before the house, the Association adjourned to meet Saturday before the first Sunday in May, 1901.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-
May 3, 1902

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met at regular annual session on May 3rd, 1902.  House was called to order by President A.W. Slaughter.  Invocation by Rev. J.T. Elkins of Clarksville, Texas.  Song by the choir.  Following was an address by Hon. P.A. Turner of Texarkana in which he exhorted the citizens of the community to set an example that in the ultimatum would give strong Christian character in the rising generations.  Adjourned for dinner.  Seb Caldwell was elected Secretary Protem.  Minutes for the proceeding meeting were read and approved.  Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: A.W. Slaughter, President; W.O. Marshall, Vice President; Dr. W.D. Black, Secretary; L.A. Wallace, Treasurer.  Committee in charge of the working reported that labor had been employed and that they had been paid $35.00 for the work.  The committee was discharged.  Motion was then made and carried that the same committee on working be reappointed.  Committee on marking unknown graves reported that they had not accomplished much as a result of some opposition.  Motion carried to discharge said committee and also to suspend the business under this same head.  Finance committee reported material for graveyard fence had been purchased and arrangements made to have work done.  We then had an able address by Seb Caldwell in which he spoke of the right principles which the fathers and mothers of this community were installing in the minds and hearts of our youth and the beautiful tribute that we paid to our buried dead.  Committee on graveyard fence was to continue until work was accomplished.  Treasurer reported $27.75 paid in and $18.40 paid put.  Balance of $8.05.  The meeting adjourned.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-
May 2nd 1903

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met at its regular annual session.  May 2nd 1903.  House was called to order by A.W. Slaughter, President.  Prayer by W.O. Marshall.  Then we had an able address by Rev. John Turner, which was very much appreciated by all those who had the pleasure of hearing him.  The meeting was then adjourned until after dinner.  Afternoon session – House was called to order.  Minutes of the proceeding meeting were read by the Secretary.  Minutes were approved.  Song.  Committee on building fence reported complete, so committee was discharged.  Committee on working agreed to pay Miss Suggs $30.00, but as contract was not fully completed with, decided to pay her $26.00, thus leaving $4.00 in the treasury.  Treasurer report next as follows.  Cash received was $42.35; Cash paid out was $38.55.  This left balance of $3.80 on hand.  Next on order came the election of officers.  A.W. Slaughter was elected President.  W.O. Marshall, Vice President. Dr. W.D. Black, Secretary.  L.A. Wallace, Treasurer.  Next in order came new business.  Motion was made and carried that the president appoint a soliciting committee separate from the graveyard working committee.  The duty of this committee should be to solicit subscriptions for the  Green Hill Association and to discontinue the taking up of collection at each regular meeting.  Next, the election of the graveyard committee.  Same committee of the past year was reelected comprised of R.S. Hood, A.W. Slaughter, and W.O. Marshall.  It was then decided that a gate be made and a lock be put on it; and that the key with the graveyard tools be left at Mr. Robert Dees.  The matter was then brought before the house, and discussed, regarding the election of a committee to be consulted when any stranger is anyone who has no regular burring place set a part.  But the question was not fully decided; so it was dropped until some future time.  We then had a song.  Then an address by W.A. Rowe of Mt. Pleasant.  He spoke of the noble principles which prompted the people of  Green Hill Community in keeping of so nice a cemetery, of the earnest work of the association; of our annual decoration of the graves.  Then we had a song.  Next a motion carried to adjourn until Saturday before the first Sunday in May, 1904.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-
April 30, 1904

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met at its regular annual session on April 30, 1904.  House was called to order by President A.W. Slaughter.  Then music by the choir.  Next invocation by J.M. Grigsby.  Then music by the choir.  Next was an essay by Miss Reeves of Mt. Vernon which we all enjoyed very much.  Then music by the choir.  Next we all had the pleasure of listing to an able address by Hon. C.M. Chambers of Clarksville, Texas, as usual Mr. Chambers did justice to the occasion. His talk was short, but impressive, and he encouraged the noble work of our community for paying such beautiful tributes of respect to our buried dead.  Next we had music.  Then motion to adjourn for dinner which met approval by all.  So we all retired to the yard where we enjoyed a feast of the good things prepared by the hospitable ladies of our community.  After dinner, the house was called to order.  Then a song by the choir.  This being the regular time for the business part of the meeting.  The minutes of the previous meeting were read, and a motion was made and carried that they stand approved.  Next was the reading of the treasury report, which is as follows:  Balance on hands May 2, 1903 was $3.80; Cash received during year was $34.20; total credit was $38.00; Paid out during year was $34.00; Balance on hands is $4.00.  T.H. Wallace, Treasurer.  Report was received.  Next was the report of the soliciting committee.  No report from Mr. Gingles  and P.B. Branch, but B.C. Branch reported that he had collected $19.25.  Also, T.H. Wallace (Treasurer) reported that Cick Bodt had turned into him $1.00.  Then report of graveyard committee was that $40.0 had been paid to contractor R.E. Lee for work during 1903.  Report of committee received.  New Business.  Graveyard committee stated that graveyard had been nicely kept.  A motion was made that we now take steps in regard to marking unknown graves.  A motion was made and carried that a committee be appointed to see this work; hire it done and draw on treasury for funds.  The committee was C.C. Black, Charles Gingles, W.L. Hood.  Next, we had a song.  Next was election of officers.  President, W.O. Marshall; Vice President, Preston Black; Treasurer, L.A. Wallace, Secretary, Dr. W.D. Black.  Next was the election of a graveyard committee consisting of R.S. Hood, W.O. Marshall, and Alfred Slaughter.  Bro. Branch, W.W. Wood, and W.L. Hood was elected soliciting committee. Then song. Then an essay by Proff. Libby of Mt. Pleasant which was edifying as well as interesting to all who were present.  Next we had a song.  Next, Rev.  Varner made a few remarks which was appreciated by all present.  Then a few remarks by retiring Pres. Slaughter.  Then motion to adjourn until May 6, 1905.  Note: Secretary Protem please read this to Association. “Although far away from old  Green Hill today, still my heart is with you in this noble work; and my prayer is that every effort put fourth by the  Green Hill Cemetery Association will be a blessing to the community”—W.L. Black.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-
May 5, 1905

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met at the regular annual term on May 5, 1905.  House called to order by president A.W. Slaughter.  Then the report of the soliciting committee.  B.C. Branch reported $2.70 cash on hands.  Next the report of L.A. Wallace as treasurer.  Balance on hands 1904 was $4.00  Paid in during he year, 1905, by committee on collection was $43.00.  Total assets equal $47.00.  Paid out for work on cemetery was $47.50.  This shows an indebtedness of .50 cents. Then an address by A.W.  Slaughter on report.  Moved and seconded that these reports be received.  Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.  The meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-
May 6, 1906

 Green Hill Cemetery Association at its annual term, met on the 5th of May, 1906.  Opened by president W.O. Marshall.  Moved and seconded that the reading of the minutes of last meeting be postponed.  Report of committee on collection.  B.C. Branch reported that enough money had been collected to pay for all work on graveyard.  Committee discharged with compliments.  Next a report of committee on marking unknown  and unmarked graves.  They only reported lumber ready.  This committee continues with W.A. Baxley appointed in C.C. Black’s stead.  They being instructed and urged by president to complete the work as it has been long standing.  Report of treasurer, L.A. Wallace.  Reports collected $14.00.  Reports paid out $14.00.  This report was accepted.  Constitution was read and adopted.  Next was the election of officers.  President, W.O. Marshall.  Vice-president, J.H. Hood. Treasurer, L.C. Branch.  Secretary, P.A. Black.  With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

May 9, 1908

 Green Hill Cemetery Association mat May 9, 1908, at regular meeting.  Meeting opened by president W.O. Marshall.  It was moved and seconded that the minutes of the last meeting be read.  Next was a report of committee on working unknown graves.  Committee reported nothing done.  Next was the report committee on finance.  Committee reported all debts paid.  Next, committee was appointed to investigate the fact as to weather one Jack Barton was a survivor of the Goliad massacre, as it has been stated that he was.  Next, it was moved and seconded that we, the Association, extend a vote of thanks to S.P. Pounders for his address.  Next was an address by A.W. Slaughter.  Then a committee was appointed on finance.  Committee members were B.C. Branch, W.W. Wood, and Joe Patterson. Following offers were elected.  President, W.O. Marshall.  Vice-President, A.W. Slaughter.  Treasurer, L.C. Branch.  Secretary, L.A. Hall.  Committee appointed to receive bids.  Committee men appointed were W.O. Marshall, J.A. Pollard, and D.H. Payne.  Moved and seconded that the Association adjourn until May, 1909.

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met May 1, 1909, at regular meeting.  Meeting was opened by president, W.O. Marshall, and this was followed with prayer by Rev. W.C. Turner.  Next, music by choir.  Followed by an address by Rev. Riddley.  This was followed by music and a recitation by Miss Grace Wallace.  Followed by music by the choir.  Next, intermission for dinner.  The association was called to order for a business meeting.  President  W.O. Marshall in chair.  First, report of committee on marking unknown graves.  Committee reported nothing done.  Committeemen were C.M. Gingles and Charly Jones.  Committee continued.  Second, report of committee on finance.  Committee reported all debts paid.  Committeemen B.C. Branch, W.W. Wood, and Joe Patterson.  Third, report of committee on receiving bids.  Committee reported yards in good condition.  Committeemen W.O. Marshall, J.A. pollard, and D.H. Payne.  Report of committee in Jack Barton case.  Nothing definite has been accomplished.  The committee continued.  Next was the election of officers.  All officers continued in present positions.  Moved and seconded that the finance committee hire a man to put up a sign to keep wagons out of cemetery and pay for same out of treasury. Moved and seconded that the Association adjourn until Saturday before first Sunday of May, 1910.

May 6, 1911

May 6, 1911, the  Green Hill Cemetery Association met in its regular meeting and was called to order by president W.O. Marshall. First thing on program was a report on unknown grave marking.  Nothing done.  Next was finance report.  All debts paid and balance left in treasury of $30.50.  Next was a report on way cemetery was kept.  Report was good, and everybody was satisfied.  Election of officers as follows: W.O. Marshall re-elected as president.  W.W. Wood re-elected as vice-president. L.A. Hall was re-elected secretary.  L.C. Branch was elected treasurer.  Next was appointment of committee of finance consisting of B.C. Branch, J.M. Grigsby, and W.W. Wood.  Committee elected for looking after unknown graves was Alex Gingles, R.S. Hod, and John Bivens.  Committee on receiving bids and looking after work and general business was elected.  Its members were W.O. Marshall, R.S. Hood, and W.A. Baxley.  There being no further business, the meeting adjourned until regular meeting time in 1912.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-
May 4, 1912

The  Green Hill Association met May 4, 1912.  The meeting was called to order by president W.O. Marshall.  Committee report on finance.  All indebtedness paid.  $5.50 left in treasury.  Cemetery kept splendid.  Committee on getting bid from L.A. Wallace.  Nothing done.  Committee excused and proposition dropped as it was thought that all had been done that was wise.  Committee on getting deed to land from Dr. Johnson was R.S. Hood, R.R. Gilpin and B.C. Branch.  Committee on finance was B.C. Branch, J.M. Grigsby, and W.W. Wood.  Next on program was election of officers.  President, W.O. Marshall.  Vice-president, L.A. Hall.  Secretary, R.A. Pollard.  Treasurer, R.R. Gilpin.  Committee receiving bids and work of graves was R.S. Hood, H.H. Narramore, W.O. Marshall, and R.R. Gilpin.  There being no more business, the Association adjourned until regular meeting time in 1913.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-
May 3, 1913

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met May 3rd, 1913.  Meeting was called to order by president W.O. Marshall.  The committee appointed to secure deed of Dr. Johnston to the land of his fenced in cemetery reported nothing accomplished.  This committee was continued.  The finance committee reported everything paid with balance of $25.00.  The report was accepted and committee discharged.  Mr. W.O. Marshall was re-elected as president.  R.A. Pollard was re-elected as secretary.  Mr. L.A. Hall was re-elected vice-president.  R.R. Gilpin was re-elected treasurer.  The finance committee elected was J.M. Grigsby, B.C. Branch, and Alex Gingles.  Contracting committee elected was R.S. Hood and D.H. Payne.  After short talk by Mr. Varner, the meeting was dismissed with prayer by Mr. Drummond.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 1, 1915

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met for its regular meeting on May 1, 1915.  Report received of treasurer Gilpin that the graveyard at  Green Hill was indebted on this year sixteen dollars.  Collected about forty-four dollars today leaving about twenty-eight dollars.  Report accepted.  Election of officers as follows. W.O. Marshall elected president.  L.A. Hall elected vice-president.  Cecil Haggard elected secretary.  R.R. Gilpin elected treasurer.  Committee was elected consisting of H.H. Narramore, Jim Newman, and R.S. Hood.  J.M. Grigsby and B.C. Branch were retained as finance committee.  Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met May 4, 1916.  The meeting was called to order by president , W.O. Marshall.  W.O. Marshall was elected president.  L.A. Hall was elected vice-president, Marshall Branch was elected secretary.  R.R. Gilpin elected as treasurer.  J.M. Grigsby and B.C. Branch were elected to the finance committee.  R.S. Hood, H.H. Narramore, and Jim Newman were elected to the contracting committee.  Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 3, 1919

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met May 3, 1919.  Association was called to order by chairman, W.O. Marshall.  The report of committee no. 1 was received and accepted.  Finance committee reported $85.20 collected.  Report received and accepted.  Committee discharged. Report by treasurer.  Amount on hand at close of last year was $31.85.  Amount collected this year was $85.20.   Total on hand is $117.05.  Paid Blount Atkinson $2.00.  Paid R.B. Allen $64.00.  Paid R.B. Cargile .50 cents.  This leaves a balance on hand of $50.55.  The report was accepted.  The following officers were elected for the next year.  W.O. Marshall, chairman.  L.A. Hall, vice-chairman.  R.R. Gilpin, treasurer.  Robb Gregory, secretary.  After which the chairman appointed the following committees.  Committee to let contract for up-keep of cemetery:  R.S. Hood,  Meek Page, and J.W. Allen.  Committee on finances:  B.C. Branch, I.L. Hays, and J.C. Ferguson.  After which the Association adjourned.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 1, 1920

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met May 1, 1920 at 2:30 p.m.  Meeting was called to order by chairman W.O. Marshall.  The following business was taken up and disposed of:  Finance committee reported $84.75 collected today.  After all debts were paid, the treasurer reported a balance of $69.55 on hand.  Motion and second that the association buy tools to be used in digging graves.  This motion carried.  B.C. Branch and Ike Hays appointed to buy tools and draw on treasurer.  The following committees were appointed.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-April 30, 1921

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met in regular session on April 30, 1921. Meeting called to order by chairman, W.O. Marshall.  The following committees made favorable reports and were excused.  Finances:  B.C. Branch, Bill Gilpin, and Ike Hays.  Contract: R.S. Hood, Meek Page and J.W. Allen.  Mr. R.R. Gilpin, treasurer, made the following cash report.  Cash on hand is $8.55.  Received today was $68.00.  Received by W.M. Hill was $1.00.  Total cash was $77.55.  Paid out last quarter was $20.00.  Paid Mr. Blount $2.00.  Paid J.W. Allen $1.00.  Total paid out $23.00.  Balance on hands is $54.55.  Then the association went into the election of officers for another year.  Motion made by L. Allen second by B.C. Branch that all officers be unanimously re-elected.  Motion carried.  Mr. Allen contended that his motion included committees as well as officers, but this part was out of order as it is the duty of the chairman to appoint the committees.  Chairman, W.O. Marshall then appointed the following committees:  Finance:  B.C. Branch,  Bill Gilpin and Ike Hays.  Contract:  R.S. Hood, Meek Page, J.W. Allen, and L. Allen.  Program: Robert Greggory, Mrs. M.S. Mathews, Mrs. Willie Blackstone, Aubrey Gilpin, and L.A. Hall.  The contract committee gave notice that they had hired R.B. Allen to look after the cemetery for another year.  There being no further business, the Association adjourned.

Marshall.  Prayer by the chairman.  Minutes read and approved.  Finance committee reported $70.00 collected and turned over to treasurer.  Contract committee reported yard in good shape and paid $6.55 left over from last year.  The following officers were elected for next year.  W.O. Marshall, chairman.  L.A. Hall, vice-chairman.  R.R. Gilpin, treasurer.  Robert Greggory, secretary.  Fence work left to contract committee.  The following committees were appointed.  Finance committee:  B.C.  Green Hill Cemetery Association met in regular session at 2:00 p.m. on May 3, 1924 at  Green Hill church.  Meeting was called to order by chairman, W.O. Marshall.  Prayer by A.W. Slaughter.  Minutes were red and approved.  Report of committees.  Finance committee reported as having collected $59.90. Contract committee reported having contracted with R.R. Harpold to work cemetery for $70.00 during the year just closed.  Also, that contract had been carried out by both parties.  Treasurer report.  Monies received were $77.00.  Disbursements totaled $72.85.  Balance of $4.15  on hand 5/2/24.  Motioned and second to re-elect all officers by acclimation carried.  Election so proceeded and the following were elected:  W.O. Marshall, president; L.A. Hall, vice-president; R.R. Gilpin, treasurer; Robert Gregory, secretary.  The same committees were appointed on contract committee.  The committee is now as follows.  R.S. Hood,  Luther Allen,  W.M. Page, and A.J. Ricks.  Finance:  W.B. Gilpin,  B.C. Branch, I.L. Hays.  No new business.  The association adjourned.

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met May 2, 1925.  Meeting called to order by W.O. Marshall.  Minutes approved.  Motion and second that we do not accept Hyacinths from Mr. R.A. Duncan by R.R. Harpold.  Jonnie Mathews and Mildred Fleming instructed to thank Ms. Duncan for her offer.  Contract committee reported by A.J. Ricks work well done.  Finance committee reported by B.C. Branch $74.85 turned in today.  Balance on hand 5/3/24 was $4.15.  Monies received totaled $74.85.  Monies paid out totaled $92.75.  Following officers were elected:  W.O. Marshall, president;  LA. Hall, vice-president; R.R. Gilpin, treasurer;  Robert Gregory, secretary.  Finance committee:  W.B. Gilpin,  Ike Hays, B.C. Branch.  Contract Committee:  R.S. Hood, Luther Allen,  Meek Page,  A.J. Ricks, and A.W. Slaughter.  Rev.  Henry Pollard made a short and enthusiastic talk. Rev.  Henry Pollard was unanimously elected Chaplin.  Motion and second that we adjourn.  Adjourn with prayer by Rev. Pollard.

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met on April 30, 1927.  Minutes read and adopted.  Reports of committees.  Collectors collected $63.65.  Treasurer reported $61.05 being balance on hand to begin next year with.   W.M. Page reported cemetery in good shape.  Committee for flowers said they have attempted to carry out their duty toward putting flowers o graves.  Motion by B.C. Branch that cemetery association buy lumber for tables.  Seconded by I.L. Hays.  Motion carried.  Election of officers:  president, W.O. Marshall; vice-president,  L.A. Hall; secretary, M.F. Fleming; treasurer, R.R. Gilpin.  Standing committees appointed by chair.  Collectors:  B.C. Branch,  W.B. Gilpin, A.J. Hicks, I.L. Hays.  Contract committee:  Luther Allen, W.M. Page, B.C. Marshall.  Address delivered by Pastor Hart of Methodist church and followed by Honorable John Cook.  Adjourned  for dinner. Election of officers same as the proceeding year of 1927.  Committees reappointed same as proceeding year of 1927.  Collecting committee reported receiving $63.25.  Report by treasurer, R.R. Gilpin:  $63.25 collected. $9.40 on hand.  Total of $72.65.  Paid out $17.50 to R.R. Harpold and $3.00 for water and dippers.  Leaving total of $52.15 on hand. Suggestion made by B.C. Branch that chart of the graves be made in order to always identify graves.  Meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 2, 1931

 Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 2, 1931.  Services opened by chairman,    W.O. Marshall.  Address by Rev.  John White, pastor of Baptist church in Winfield, Texas.  Committee reports.  Committee identification of graves reported work fairly well finished. 431 graves, 234 tombs, 187 graves unknown at time.  Collecting committee collected today $61.25.  Treasurer reported paid out $2.00 for water, $5.00 for post, $70.00 for cemetery work.  Balance of $6.25 plus $61.25 leaving a balance on hand of $67.50. Motion made and seconded to continue same officers for 1931.  Contract committee to see about timber on east side of yard.  Meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 1, 1932

On May 1, 1932 the  Green Hill Graveyard Association met in regular session and the following business was transacted. A.W. Slaughter was nominated for President by W.M. Page. Moved and seconded. Nominations ceased. Motion carried. A.W. Slaughter elected president. L.A. Hall was elected vice-president. R.R. Gilpin was elected treasurer. Millard Fleming was elected secretary, and all old committees were retained. Report by treasurer. Balance brought forward $2.00. Collected May 1, 1932 $65.00. Reports of all committees and officers received and accepted. A.Z. Hays and E.H. Gregory were appointed to assist the president in drawing up resolution of respect in honor of W.O. Marshall deceased. All people who wish to identify or have identified graves of friends or relatives are requested to be present decoration day to give and receive such information. RESOLUTION: Where it has pleased him, who is the giver of every good and perfect gift, to call up higher from the walks of men our co-worker, friend, and neighbor, William O. Marshall, who has been a faithful member of the  Green Hill Cemetery Association more than forty years and president over thirty years. We will miss his wise counsel in carrying on the association work. We bow in submission to his will who is all wise; furthermore, this be recorded in the minutes of the association, a copy to the family and the Mt. Pleasant Times Review. The meeting adjourned.

Services dismissed by Pastor Lyle Gregory. Minutes of the 1933 meeting red and adopted as read. Committee reports. Financial committee reported collecting $60.50 collected today. Treasurer report: water $1.56, table .25, the working $45.00= $46.75. Owe $25.85: owe $10.85 on third quarter and al of fourth quarter. Start next year paid up with $34.65 on hand. Contract committee reports work well done. Motion made by W.M. Page and seconded by B.C. Branch that all officers be elected. Motion carried. All committees appointed as in 1933. Rev Lyle Gregory withdrew from appointment to the contract committee. Lease money of cemetery and church to be looked up. R.R. Gilpin to attend to it.  Meeting adjourned.

Maples, Pittsburg.  Tribute of respect paid paid the Late B.C. Branch, committeeman, by Mr. Slaughter.  Adjourned for lunch.  Treasurer, R.R. Gilpin, reported receiving $84.80 today.  Balance of $58.27 brought forward, giving total of $104.07.  Still owe incidentals and one quarter,  All officers re-elected as present.  V.V. Weaver.  Musical recital my Miss Mary Ann and Bettie Lou Crews of Pittsburg.  Solo by Mrs. Ted Matthews with Mrs. White accompanist, both of Pittsburg.  Address was given by Dr. John G. Varner of Mt. Pleasant.  Closing prayer was given by Preston Black of Barstow.  Because of heavy rain, lunch was served in the church.  Business meeting attended by R.R. Gilpin, M. Branch, Bob Gregory, A.W. Slaughter, Vick Mason, W.M. Page, Bolin Branch, and Millard Fleming.  Balance brought forward was $101.68.  $48.02 collected today.  Balance on hand being $149.70.  All officers were re-elected.  Marshall Branch was elected as vice-president to replace V.V. Hall.  Committees were re-appointed.  Marshall, Cub and Bill Blackston to see to  cleaning up grounds-tables.  Vick Mason added to contract committee.  Meeting Adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 5, 1945

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met May 5, 1945.   Services opened by the president, Mr. A.W. Slaughter.  Followed in prayer by Rev. C.P. Owen.  The address was given by Rev. John Witt.   Theron Jones gave solo.  Dinner as usual on grounds.  Beautiful weather.  Financial committee collected $117.75 today.  Balance of $182.60 brought forward.  Paid Mr. Bivens last quarter a sum of $21.25.  Total balance on hand being $279.10.  All officers were re-elected  as previous year.  Same committees re-appointed.  Present at meeting were R.R. Gilpin, A.Z. Hays, Bob Gregory, Lewis Croxton, W.M. Page, Van Hall, A.W. Slaughter, M.F. Fleming, Marshall Branch, John Bivens, Earl Summerlin, and Charles Parrish.  Meeting adjourned.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
-May 4, 1946

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 4, 1946.  Services opened by Mr. A.W. Slaughter, president.  Followed in prayer by Rev. Moore.  Piano solo by Mary Ann Cruse.  Address by Rev. Jordan, pastor of the Methodist church at Pittsburg.  Dismissed with prayer by J.D. Weaver.  Adjourned for dinner.  Finance committee reported $124.50 collected today.  Balance brought forward of $222.60.  Treasurer reported paying out $25.00 to Mr. Bivens, leaving balance on hand of $322.10.  All officers re-elected and al committees re-appointed as the previous year.  Marshall Branch added to collection committee.  Contract committee hired Mr. Bivens to work cemetery for next year.  Present at meeting were: Victor Mason, Luther Allen, Van Hall, Marshall Branch, Bill Blackstone, Rev. Barton, R.R. Gilpin, A.W. Slaughter, and Bob Gregory.  The meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 3, 1947

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 3, 1947.  Services opened by M.F. Fleming, temporary chairman.  Followed in prayer by Rev. Barton.  Solo by Bro. Sikes.  Address by Rev. J.D. Weaver.  Benediction  by Rev. R.B. Jones.  Dinner served.  Balance brought forward of $250.10.  $143.00 collected today.  Balance on hand of $393.10.  Committee of Bob Gregory, P.E. Wallace, Bill Blackston to attend to deeds needed on additions to cemetery grounds.  Motion made that Mr. P.E. Wallace, Joe Embrey, M.F. Fleming served on committee to draw up resolution toward Mr. A.W. Slaughter, our late president, and send a copy to the family, The Times Review, and the records.  Motion made and carried that M.F. Fleming act as president.  Motion made and carried that Bob Gregory be secretary.  All officers re-elected for next year.  Trustees for Association:  R.R. Gilpin, P.E. Wallace, M.F. Fleming.  By-laws so amended.  The meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 1, 1948

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 1, 1948.  The treasurer reported $294.85 on hand.  Collection today of $128.90.  Mr. P.E. Wallace, Marshall, and Miss Bessie Caldwell were appointed as fencing committee.  All officers and committees were re-elected.  Earl Summerlin appointed to the place on contract committee made vacant by the death of L. Allen.  Meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-April 30, 1949

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on April 30, 1949.  Called to order by M.F. Fleming, chairman.  Minutes of last year read and approved.  Treasurer reported $213.00 in the treasury.  Collected $147.00 today.  Total $360.00 last quarter to be paid $31.25.  Balance on hand $328.75.  Motion and second that north addition be left on outside for parking. Carried.  Motion and second that all other be fenced.  Carried.  Motion and second that fencing committee be given full authority to contract and complete fence when cash available.  Carried.  All officers were re-elected.  The meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 6, 1950

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 6, 1950.  $17.00 collected for cemetery.  Fence approved and paid for in the amount of $1,804.00.  Dr. Salmon gave the sermon.  Had a solo from Lon Bates.  An address by Walter Stewart.  Adjourned for lunch.  All officers were re-elected.  Bill Blackston added to the contract committee.  The meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 5, 1951

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 5, 1951.  The association was called to order by Mr. M.F. Fleming, chairman.  The finance committee composed of Robert Gregory and Marshall Branch reported $161.50 collected today with the help of Mr. V.V. Hall.  The contracting committee reported on up-keep of the cemetery.  They gave a good report.  The treasurer reported a balance of $448.75.  The treasurer was instructed to pay for flowers used to decorate the church.  The following officers and committees were elected.  M.F. Fleming, chairman; Marshall Branch, vice-chairman; Robert Gregory, secretary; R.R. Gilpin, treasurer.  Contract committee: Bob Gregory, M. Branch, and V.V. Hall.  A vote of thanks was extended to Teaser Hood, Ft. Worth, and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Stuart of Tyler for their generous support in the fencing of our cemetery.  Meeting adjourned.

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 3, 1952.  The meeting was called to order by M.F. Fleming, chairman.  Minutes from the previous ear were read and approved.  Treasurer reported $467.50 as of May 1, 1952.  Finance committee reported $144.00 collected today.  Contract committee reported good up-keep of cemetery.  Motion and second that the caretaker be paid to look after tables and water.  All present were invited to attend morning program.  The meeting adjourned.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
-May 2, 1953

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 2, 1953.  The business meeting was called to order by chairman, M.F. Fleming.  1952 minutes were read and approved.  Prayer was offered by L.E. Croxton.   Finance committee reported $151.30 collected today.  The treasurer, A.B. Gilpin, reported $456.50 on hand plus $151.30 or a total of $607.80 to date.  The contract committee reported that Marshall thank those who gave their service to the association in work for the additions.  Motion carried.  The officers and committees were re-elected from the previous year.  Marshall Branch and Bob Gregory were asked to work with the contract committee in regards to curbs and gravel for the drives in the cemetery.  The meeting adjourned.

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 1, 1954.  Called to order by chairman.  The following were present:  M.F. Fleming, Robert Gregory, V.V. Hall, Marshall Branch, Earl Summerlin, and W.E. Blackstone.  All officers were re-elected.  Finance committee reported $109.56 collected.  The treasurer was absent, so we had no report from him.  All committees were re-appointed.  Mr. Rolf was commended for the god work done in caring for the cemetery.  There being no further business, we voted to adjourn.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-April 30, 1955

On April 30, 1955, the  Green Hill Cemetery Association met in business session in the afternoon meeting called to order by chairman, M.F. Fleming.  The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.  There was no unfinished business, so we heard the reports of the committees.  Finance committee reported $175.75 collected today.  The treasurer reported $428.86 balance on hand in bank.  Motion by Mrs. D.D. Lide and second by Dewey Blackstone that all officers be re-elected for another year.  Motion carried.  Motion by Mrs. Josephine Rountree and second by Mr. D.D. Lide that W.E. Blackstone be elected treasurer, as he was serving by appointment, since the death of A.B. Gilpin.  Motion carried.  The chairman then re-appointed all standing committees for another year.  Mr. Rolf was commended for his work in keeping of the cemetery the past year.  No other business, so we voted to adjourn.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 5, 1956

On May 5, 1956, the  Green Hill Cemetery Association met in business session at 2:45 p.m.   The meeting was called to order by M. Branch, vice-chairman.  Payer was by P.E. Wallace.   The minutes of last meeting were read and approved.  Report of treasurer was next in order.  Mr. W.E. Blackstone reported all bills paid and balance in bank of $441.56.  Robert Gregory reported for the finance committee that $189.50 had been collected today bringing the total to $630.56.  The chairman then had the constitution and by-laws read by the secretary.  Election of officers.  M. Branch, president; Mrs. B.D. McAfee, vice-president; W.E. Blackstone, treasurer; Robert Gregory, secretary.  The will of Mrs. Maley and letters pertaining to same were read for the information of those present.  P.E.  Walace, Robert Gregory and Frank M. Caldwell were appointed to have well drilled and equipped with pump and electric motor.  Eugene Fleming, Mrs. D.D. Lide, George Gilpin and Joe Embrey were appointed as a committee to supervise the funds from Mrs. Maley’s will.  The following were appointed as contracting committee:  W.E. Blackstone, Van V. Hall, Earl Summerline, Mrs. B.D. McAfee.  The finance committee was re-appointed as follows: Robert Gregory, M. Branch and Van Hall.  The meeting was adjourned by everyone saying the Lord’s Prayer in unison.

At a called meeting on September 23, 1956, the  Green Hill Cemetery Association voted to approve the request of Mrs. Vedder to Mr. Nelson Scarlock for repairing and improving the hotel.  The meeting adjourns.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 4, 1957

On May 4, 1957, the  Green Hill Cemetery Association met at 2:50 p.m. called to order by chairman, Marshall Branch.  Prayer offered by Mr. P.E. Wallace.  The minutes of the 1956 meeting were read approved.  The committee to drill and equip well with pump reported well drilled, equipped, and paid for.  Committee was thanked ad discharged.  The contracting committee reported on the up-keep of the cemetery and the building of new tables.  The finance committee reported $112.50 collected today.  The following officers were chosen for another year: M. Branch, chairman; Ernest McAfee, vice-chairman; W.E.  Blackstone, treasurer; Bob Gregory, secretary.  In the matter of new business, it was voted to have the drives curbed and graveled.  The following committees were appointed.  Contracting: Earl Summerlin, Raymond Blackstone, and Earnestine McAfee.  Finance:  Robert Gregory, Marshall Branch, and W.E. Blackstone.  We then adjourned by reciting the Lord’s Prayer in unison.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 3, 1958

On May 3, 1958, the  Green Hill Cemetery Association met at 2 p.m.  It was called to order by Marshall Branch, the chairman.  Prayer was offered by Joe Embrey.  The minutes of 1957 were read as were the minutes of the committee in charge of the Tess Hood Maley funds.  The same were approved.  There was no unfinished business.  Finance committee collected $72.50 today.  $115.44 carried over in old account.  $1,426.39 left in Tess Hood Maley account.  Motion by Miss. Bessie Caldwell and second by Mrs. Phila Crews that all officers be re-elected.  Motion carried.  The chairman then re-appointed all the same committees for another year.  There being no further business, we adjourned by repeating the Lord’s Prayer in unison.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 2, 1959

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 2, 1959 in the  Green Hill Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m.  The meeting was called to order by the President, Marshall Branch.  Mr. P.E.  Wallace led us in prayer.  The minutes of 1958 were read by Mrs. Winna Southerland, temporary secretary, and were approved as read.  There was no unfinished business.  Mrs. Ernestine McAfee reported on cleaning of cemetery and straitening of monuments.  Mr. W.E. Blackstone gave the treasurer’s report.  We had $127.44 at the beginning of the year.  We now have $137.84.  There was a total $122.50 collected today.  In the Tess Hood Maley account, we now have $149.39 and $2,500.00 in Building and Loan Stock.  Motion was made by Mrs. Dean Lide and seconded Mrs. Marie Fleming that Mrs. Winna Southerland be elected secretary for the year 1959.  Motion carried.  Motion was made by Mrs. Bessie Caldwell that all other officers be re-elected.  Gene Fleming seconded the motion.  Motion did not carry.  Horace Thompson moved that we elect Dewey Blackstone for President, seconded by Darwin Phillips.  There were no other nominations.  Gene Wood made the motion that we accept Mrs. Crews as our vice-president by acclamation.  Mr. Earl Summerlin moved that we elect Mr. W.E. Blackstone for treasurer, seconded by Darwin Phillips.  There were no other nominations.  Motion carried.  Mrs. Bessie Caldwell asked that we stand for a moment of silence in appreciation of Mr. R.J. Gregory, former secretary of  Green Hill Cemetery Association, who passed away on January 3, 1959.  Mrs. Dean Lide requested that a letter be written to Mr. Charles Black and Mr. Vic Mason thanking them for the trees which have helped to beautify our church grounds.  The president requested more time for the appointment of committees, after a suggestion by Mrs. Lide.  Credit was given to Mr. Darwin Phillips for the recent clearing which helped to beautify grounds.  A vote of thanks was extended to Marshall Branch for a job well done as president of the  Green Hill Cemetery Association.  There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.  

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-June 7, 1959

The officers and committees of the  Green Hill Cemetery Association had a called meeting on June 7, 1959 at the  Green Hill Presbyterian Church at 3:00 p.m.  The meeting was opened with prayer by the president, Dewey Blackstone.  Mrs. Dean Lide, Gene Fleming, John Johnson, Darwin Phillips, and Mrs. Winna Southerland were appointed as a committee to supervise the funds received from Mrs. Tesser Hood Maley’s will.  Gene Fleming is chairman of this committee.  The following were appointed as a contracting committee: Earl Summerlin, Raymond Blackstone, and Mrs. Ernestine  McAfee with Mrs. McAfee as chairman.  The finance committee was appointed as follows: Darwin Phillips, Marshall Branch, and Mr. W.E. Blackstone as chairman.  There was a discussion concerning a special program committee and a motion was made by Mrs. Dean Lide and seconded by W.E. Blackstone that the president appoint a program committee. Motion carried.  The program committee appointed by Mr. Dewey Blackstone is as follows:  Miss Eva Branch, Mrs. Clara Caldwell, and Mrs. Winna Southerland.  Suggestions were contributed by the group concerning material for the program.  The will of Mrs. Tesser Hood Maley was read and discussed.   The constitution and by laws of the cemetery were read.  Mr. Earl Summerlin spoke of washes in southeast corner of cemetery.  Motion was made by Marshall Branch and seconded by Darwin Phillips that the committee take care of them.  Motion carried.  There was a discussion of working of cemetery.  Mrs. Lide requested that a dead tree near their lot be removed to keep from falling on monuments.  The need for an incinerator at the north gate was discussed.  Motion was made by Raymond Blackstone and seconded by Mrs. Lide that one be secured.  Motion carried.  There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-February 14, 1960

On February 14, 1960, seven members of the  Green Hill Cemetery Association officers and Tesser Hood Maley find committee met at 2:30 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Winna Southerland at 1407 S. McMinn, Mt. Pleasant, Texas, following receipt of a letter from Mr. Nelson Scurlock of Ft. Worth, attorney for the Tesser Hood Maley estate.  Meeting opened with prayer by Mr. Dewey Blackstone.  There was reading of the minutes of the last meeting.  The letter from Mr. Nelson Scurlock, dated February 11, 1960, was read and discussed.  There was a discussion of the tax on the last check, and it was decided to look into what the tax was for.  (Mr. W.E. Blackstone can answer this for us.)  Mrs. Dean Lide made motion and Mr. Darwin Phillips seconded the motion that we concur with Mr. Scurlock’s suggestions in allowing Mrs. Veddar additional time not to exceed 6 months to complete her transactions with a loan company t pay off the note.  Motion carried.  There was a report of contracting committee and a discussion of working of cemetery.  Motion was made by Mr. Earl Summerlin that we hire someone by 12 month periods and pay by the quarter, but that he work the cemetery as it needs to be, more in the growing season and less in the winter.  Motion seconded by Mrs. McAfee.  Motion carried.  Mr. Summerlin reported that he cut the water off and drained it at the well during the cold weather.  Mrs. McAfee made the motion that we secure 3 additional copies of present map of cemetery plots to be distributed as follows:  one copy to the president, one copy to be placed in the church, and one left at the home of Mr. Jeff Rolf, who live across the road from the cemetery.  The motion was seconded by Mrs. Lide.  Motion carried.  Dr.  Darwin Phillips and Mrs. McAfee were appointed to take care of this job.  Motion was made by Mrs. Winna Southerland and seconded by Mr. Earl Summerlin that the contracting committee secure markers from Smith-Bates and place at unmarked graves before decoration day.  Mrs. Lide made a motion that we adjourn to meet again at  Green Hill Church on April 24, 1960 at 2:30 p.m. for an open business meeting to discuss the possibility of having the business meeting on Decoration Day preceding the program and also the possibility of electing officers every two years.  Mrs. McAfee seconded the motion.  Motion carried and the meeting adjourned.  Those who attended this meeting were:  Mr. Dewey Blackstone, Mrs. Ernestine McAfee, Mrs. Dean Lide, Mr. Earl Summerlin, Mr. Darwin Phillips, Mr. Raymond Blackstone, and Mrs. Winna Southerland.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-April 24, 1960

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association held a meeting Sunday evening, April 24, 1960 at 2:30 p.m. for all who were interested.  Meeting opened with prayer by the president, Dewey Blackstone. The minutes for the three meetings held during the past year and correspondence from Mr. Nelson Scurlock were read and approved.  Mr. Darwin Phillpis reported on the maps of the cemetery. They will be sent in during following weeks. They will cost approximately $100. Markers are at Smith-Bates Funeral Home and will cost $50. There was a discussion of the possibility of having our regular business meeting on Sunday evening proceeding Decoration Day. Mr. Earl Summerlin made a motion that we vote April 30 to change our business meeting date beginning with the year 60-61 to the Sunday evening before Decoration. Mr. Darwin Phillips seconded the motion. Motion carried. There was a report of the program committee.  There was a discussion about fixing the table that was broken.  Mr. Marshall Branch made a motion that the contracting committee look after this matter. Mr. Darwin Phillips seconded the motion. Motion carried. There was a report from the treasurer. Meeting was closed with prayer by Wm. C. Southerland. 

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-April 30, 1960

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met for a business meeting at the church on Saturday afternoon, April 30, 1960 at 2:00 p.m. The meeting was opened with prayer by the president, Dewey Blackstone. The minutes of all meetings of the previous year were read and approved. Correspondence from Mr. Nelson Scurlock and our response to his letter were read. There was a discussion of electing officers for a two-year period. Mrs. McAfee made a motion that we amend the by-laws and elect our officers once every two years. Mrs. Dean Lide seconded the motion. Motion carried. Mrs. McAfee nominated Mr. Dewey Blackstone for president. Mrs. Bessie Caldwell seconded the motion. Tom Caldwell moved that we accept this nomination by acclamation. Motion was accepted. Mrs. Bessie Caldwell made the motion that present remaining officers be retained. Mrs. Dean Lide seconded the motion. Motion carried. There was a motion by Mrs. Bessie Caldwell that we have our business meeting on Sunday afternoon preceeding Decoration Day. There was a discussion. According to Article 8, there must be 2/3 vote of members present. There were eleven present who voted for, and six present who voted against. Motion did not carry. There was a motion by Gene Fleming, second by Raymond Blackstone to amend the constitution and meet on Saturday evening, Decoration Day, instead of on preceeding Friday night. Motion carried. Mr. W.E. Blackstone gave the treasurer s report. Upkeep - $4.00, collected $185.00. $475.41 in Tess Hood Maley, $222.09 in  Green Hill Cemetery Fund. Contracting committee reported that Ralph Thompson has asked to be considered as contractor. Mrs. Winna Southerland made a motion that a map of cemetery be put in waterproof billboard instead of at Mr. Rolf's house. Mr. Summerlin seconded. Motion carried. Motion was made by Mr. Joe Embrey that the finance committee get 100 more markers. Mr. Raymond Blackstone seconded. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-February 19, 1961

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met at 4:00 p.m. on February 19, 1961 with 11 members present. Meeting opened with prayer by the president, Dewey Blackstone. Minutes of past meeting were read and approved. Mr. Willie Blackstone gave the treasurer's report. Cemetery fund - $454.29; collected this year - $235.00; Tess Hood Maley fund - $1429.73. Everything paid up to date. Mr. Darwin made a motion that the treasurer take care of Tess Hood Maley funds as well as cemetery funds. Mrs. Bessie Caldwell seconded. Motion carried. Report of cemetery committee - Earl Summerlin reported they had been unable to complete a previous project of curbing and driveway due to lack of funds. Requested permission at this time to continue project. There was a discussion at length as to cost, where, and how. Trip was made to cemetery by entire group to study needs. Mrs. Winna Southerland moved that the contracting committee check costs and get bids on curbing all way around entire project. Mrs. Bessie Caldwell seconded. Motion carried. Mrs. Edwin Sanders and Mrs. W.E. Blackstone were appointed to the program committee. Since Raymond Blackstone is ill at this time, the president appointed Darwin Phillips to assist contracting committee with this project. The meeting adjourned.

MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 6, 1961

On May 6, 1961, the  Green Hill Cemetery Association met at 2:00 p.m. The meeting opened with prayer by Joe Embrey. Minutes were read and approved. Treasurer's report by Mr. W.E. Blackstone. Collected $280.50 on decoration day. Cost of road to J.R. Nicholson amounted to $367.25. Expenditures for the year were read to group and totaled $1,014. Balance left in Tess Hood Maley estates $694.83. Balance in  Green Hill Cemetery Fund $439.29. We receive $50 interest every six months; therefore, $100 interest was received this year. Motion was made by Joe Embrey and seconded by Earl Summerlin that this interest be deposited in operating cemetery fund. Discussion followed. Motion carried. Mr. Earl Summer­lin reported on work still to be done on road. Mr. Gene Fleming made a motion that $694.83 in Tess Hood Maley plus $305.17 in cemetery fund making a total of $1,000 be invested in Mt. Pleasant Building and Loan. Seconded by Darwin Phillips. Motion carried. Marshall Branch made the motion that contracting committee build a tool house as soon as possible. Mr. Joe Embrey seconded. Motion carried. Edwin Sanders was appointed to the contracting committee to fill the vacancy of Mr. Raymond Blackstone, who resigned due to health. Other committees were re-appointed with Mr. Darwin Phillips as chairman of the Tess Hood Maley fund committee. A commendation was made to Mr. Darwin Phillips for cleaning of yard. The meeting adjourned.

On May 5, 1962, the  Green Hill Cemetery Association met at 1:30 p.m. with Dewey Blackstone presiding. Meeting opened with prayer by Dewey Blackstone. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Treasurer's report was read by Winna Southerland in the absence of the treasurer, W.E. Blackstone. Collection today of $267.00. Meeting then proceeded to the election of officers. Mrs. Zenobia Lide nominated Dewey Blackstone for president, seconded by Darwin Phillips. There being no other nominations, Mr. Dewey Blackstone was elected by acclamation. Mrs. Edwin Sanders was nominated for secretary by Winna Southerland, seconded by Darwin Phillips, and accepted by acclamation. Mrs. Phila Crews was nominated for vice-president by Miss Josephine Summerlin, seconded by Mr. Joe Embrey and accepted by acclamation. Mr. W.E. Blackstone was nominated by Marshall Branch for treasurer and seconded by Joe Embrey, accepted by acclamation. President, Dewey Blackstone appointed the following committees. Cemetery Committee: Earl Summerlin (chairman), Edwin Sanders, and Frank Caldwell. less Hood Maley fund committee: Darwin Phillips (chairman), John Johnson, Mrs. Dean Lide,and Gene Fleming. A discussion followed on labor to take care of cemetery. Motion was made by Josephine Summerlin that cemetery committee make decision as to cost of labor on cemetery. The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 4, 1963. Decoration Day services began at 11:15 a.m.. Mr. Dewey Blackstone, president of the cemetery association, opened the service with song, So Precious Is Jesus" by congregation. Invoca­tion was given by Mr. David Davies, Minister of the Presbyterian Church. Solo by Mrs. Hardin Whitaker accompanied by Mrs. Alvin Spann at the piano. Rev. John Chaney, Minister of the  Green Hill Methodist Church, brought the message. Song, "Blest Be the Tie That Binds" by congregation. Benediction by Rev. Paul Campbell, Minister of the Repley Memorial Baptist Church. Dismissed for lunch. The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met at 1:30 p.m. for the annual business meeting. Mr. Dewey Blackstone, president, presiding. Mrs. Josephine Roundtree voiced appreciation for roses that had been planted along the cemetery fence and made a motion that a card of thanks be sent to Mr. Vie Mason and Frank Caldwell for this. Mrs. Dean Lide seconded motion. Motion carried. Mrs. Bessie Caldwell made the suggestion that small tables be secured for coffee and tea to add to convenience of being served at noon. Also, that some added benches be secured. Mr. Marshall Branch agreed to see this was done. Mr. W.E. Blackstone, treasurer, gave the financial report for the year. Collected $305.00 today. Mr. Joe Embrey was appointed to the Tess Hood Maley fund committee. Mr. Earl Summerlin moved the meeting adjourn. Mr. Marshall Branch seconded the motion. MINUTES OF THE GREEN HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING-May 2, 1964

The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 2, 1964. Decoration Day services began at 11:15 a.m. for the program. The group dismissed for lunch. The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met at 1:45 p.m. for regular annual business meeting. Meeting was called to order by the president, Mr. Dewey Blackstone, who opened the meeting with prayer. Minutes of last regular annual meeting and of called meeting on Oct 13 were read. The following corrections were made of minutes of called meeting. Paragraph 5 - correction made from $8,000 in time deposit at First National Bank and $8,000 in time deposit in Guaranty Bond State Bank to $8,500 in each. This with the $8,000 invested in Mt. Pleasant Building and Loan Association, making a total of $25,000 earning 4% interest per year. Paragraph 6 of called meeting states the group discussed the possibility of setting up a trust for the cemetery association. The money could be administered by the designated trustees for the benefit of the association. The group decided that the trust should have the following conditions. Make the trust for a 50 year duration and that if any changes were ever made in it the changes would have to be made at the meeting of the association on Decoration Day. For any changes to be made, 75% of the people present at such meeting would have to vote for the change. This was changed to state: For any changes in the trust to be made there must be a quorum of not less than 25 qualified members of the  Green Hill Cemetery Association present on Decoration Day and a vote by 75% of said qualified members voting for the change. Qualification of members of the  Green Hill Cemetery Association being: Any individual who is related within the third degree by blood or marriage to some person who is buried in the  Green Hill Cemetery. Then: Minutes of both regular meeting and called meeting were approved. A treasury report was read by the secretary in the absence of the treasurer, Mr. W.E. Blackstone. There was a balance of $194.74 in the treasury after all expenses were paid as of May 2, 1964. Total collections for today were $247.50. A report was made by Mrs. Dean Lide, Chairman of the Tess Hood Maley marker committee. The marker will be made of bronze and will be placed on a base the size and type granite as the foot marker of the graves in the Tess Hood Maley lot. Cost to the association for the marker is to be $50 or a little more. The marker is being bought from Star Memorial and will be put on the lot in about three weeks.  Paragraph 6 of called meeting minutes was re-read, and after a brief discussion, motion was made by Mr. Edgar Gregory that a beginner trust of $25,000 be made for the  Green Hill Cemetery Association for a 50 year duration. This $25,000 is to be invested in United States Securities or Institutions of which are insured by the Federal Government - Government Bonds, Building and Loan or Savings Deposits in local banks. Any interest from invest­ments to be paid into the operating funds of the  Green Hill Cemetery Association of which the treasurer of the association will disperse that portion needed for expense of the upkeep of the cemetery. All money accumulated after expenses were paid to be added to the trust in $500 denominations as of Decoration Day. Darwin Phillips second motion. Motion carried. The motion was made by Mr. Paul Branch that the trust be administered by three bonded trustees, their terms to be staggered, and one being elected each year by the  Green Hill Cemetery Association. Motion seconded by Mr. Bolin Branch. Motion carried. Full term of trustees 3 years. Nominations from the floor were made for one year term. Mr. Edgar Gregory elected. Two year term - Mr. Joe Embrey elected. Three year term - Mr. Gene Fleming elected. All three trustees must be in agreement on investment. Election of officers for the association followed. Mrs. Bessie Caldwell made the motion all present officers be retained for a two year term. Mrs. Phila Crews seconded motion. Motion carried. The present Tess Hood Maley flower committee to be retained. The present work committee to be retained. Mr. Earl Summerlin, chairman of the work committee, reported Mr. Ricks Rolf had been employed as caretaker for the coming year. The Tess Hood Maley estate having been paid in full the committee who served on this was dissolved. The meeting with 18 present adjourned.

Trustees annual report was read. Old business - Mrs. Dean Lide reported the Tess Hood Maley marker had been placed in the cemetery at a cost to association of $52.00. Chairman expressed thanks to committee on keeping of cemetery for a job well done. Appreciation for behalf of association was expressed by Mr. Paul Branch for Mr. Edgar Gregory's work as trustee of trust fund. The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on April 30, 1966. Decoration Day Service began at 11:15 a.m. Announcements by president, Dewey Blackstone: song—invocation—Mr. Joe Ed Lamb, Pastor of  Green Hill Methodist Church. Song. Mr. Lamb brought the message. After the benediction, lunch was served in the back of the church due to rain. The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met for annual business meeting at 1:00 p.m. President Dewey Blackstone opened the meeting with prayer. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Minutes of finance committee meeting June 6, 1965 were read. A letter from Internal Revenue Service dated September 3, 1965 concerning needed information in order to determine if the organization is entitled to tax exemption was read. Letter and information was sent to Mr. Edgar Gregory who took care of this matter. Mr. Willie Blackstone gave this report of the treasury. Cash and income for year was $2,141.23. Amount paid out was $1,118.89. Balance on hand as of April 30, 1966 was $1,022.34. Cash collected today was $140.50. Motion made by Florine Conroy that present officers be re-elected for another term. Motion seconded by Mrs. Dean Lide. Motion carried. Motion made by Bob Conroy that present finance committee be re-elected. Second by Mrs. Bessie Caldwell. Motion carried. Work committee appointed by president as follows: Darwin Phillips (chairman), Edwin Sanders, Marshall Branch. Present flower committee retained. Gene Fleming moved to invest $500 from general fund to trust fund. Advised by president not needed as this action was voted on to be taken each Decoration Day in year of 1964. No vote taken. Mr. Traylor Russell, Titus County Historical Foundation Chairman, informed association that markers could be secured for any veteran whose grave was unmarked or the present monument broken. Marshall Branch made motion that Mr. Russell secure a marker for the grave of James Harris whose monument is broken. Mrs. Dean Lide seconded motion. Motion carried. In the election of trustee for 1966-1969, Marshall Branch made motion to elect Bob Conroy. Motion seconded by Raymond Blackstone. Bolin Branch moved nominations cease. Bob Conroy elected. Darwin Phillips expressed his desire to give to the cemetery, for future use, about an acre of land, reserving the timber on said land for a period of 10 years. The only cost to the association being the expense of making deed and one dollar. Gene Fleming made motion the donation be accepted. Seconded by Marshall Branch. A rising vote of thanks was given Darwin Phillips for this and other work he had done in the interest of the cemetery. Mr. Edgar Gregory presented a new secretary book and expressed his desire to give to the association a portable typewriter to be used to record the minutes. Bolin Branch made motion to accept the donation. Seconded by Tom Caldwell. Motion carried. Mr. Gregory was given a rising vote of thanks for this and other work he had done in the interest of the cemetery. Suggestion was made for moving tables to a shady place by Marshall Branch. A standing vote of thanks was given Mr. Edgar Gregory and Mr. Darwin Phillips for the typewriter Mr. Gregory gave and the land Mr. Phillips gave to the cemetery association. Mention was made of the erection of the marker for the James Harris grave on October 10, 1966. Mr. Willie Blackstone gave treasury report as follows. Cash and income for the year $2,351.34. Invested in Mt. Pleasant Savings and Loan $500. Expense for upkeep of cemetery property $965.18. Total donations for last year $186.50. Interest on investments $1142.50. Total income being $1329.00. Amount collected today $261.00. Motion made by Marshall Branch to invest $500 from general fund in Mt. Pleasant Savings and Loan. Second by Bob Conroy. Motion carried. Mr. Paul Branch made the suggestion that concrete benches be placed in the cemetery. Motion made by Ronnie Blackstone that the finance committee act on this matter. Second by Mrs. Dean Lide. Motion carried. Mr. Willie Blackstone made the suggestion the map of the graves and the book listing the names to be placed in the cemetery. Gene Fleming made motion a committee be appointed by the president to do this. Seconded by Larry Hall. Motion carried. Mr. Willie Blackstone and Mr. Marshall Branch were appointed. The association met at 1:30 for the annual business meeting. President, Dewey Blackstone, called the meeting to order. Mr. Raymond Brown voiced the opening prayer. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Report from Map committee. Asked that they be given until next year to secure a new map of the cemetery. Election of trust officer for 1969-1972. Nomination made by Marshall Branch that Bob Conroy be re-elected. Second by Raymond Blackstone. Edgar Gregory moved nominations cease. Second by Ronnie Black-stone. Bob Conroy re-elected.  The trust officers and the treasurer informed the association of the need to invest surplus funds over and above the amount needed in the general fund for the upkeep of the cemetery, in interest bearing investments as accumulated during the year, to be added to the trust fund as of Decoration Day. Discussion followed. Minutes of 1964 were read to confirm the need for this action to be taken. Mr. Paul Branch made the motion: The trust officers and the treasurer be given the authority to place in interest bearing investments such surplus funds, when accumulated, in the general fund, over and above the needed amount for the upkeep of the cemetery, to be added to the trust fund as of Decoration Day in $500 dollar denominations. In the absence of the treasurer, W.E. Blackstone, the secretary read the treasury report as follows: On deposit in general fund $1574.10. Donations for the year $320.00. Loaned to Guaranty Bond Bank from general fund $1200. Mt. Pleasant Savings and Loan $262.50. First National Bank $425. Guaranty Bond Bank $425. Mt. Pleasant Savings and Loan $262.50. Chairman Dewey Blackstone retained the present work committee. Flower committee consists of Annie Embrey, Grace Gingles, and Myrtle Blackstone. Josephine Rountree expressed concern over the deterioration of the big oak tree in the cemetery and made motion the association contact the proper persons to see what, if anything, could be done to insure prolonged life of the tree. Florine Conroy seconded the motion. Motion carried. Doris King expressed the desire to have the history of the cemetery written so it could be given public recog­nition for its rich heritage. Larry Hall asked that this be put in the form of a motion. Doris King made the motion the history of the cemetery be written and the cemetery association bear any expense that might be incurred. Seconded by Florine Conroy. Motion carried. Dewey Blackstone appointed Florine Conroy as chairman of the committee to begin this work. She is to select others to assist her in this work. Mildred Blackstone made a motion that a register sheet be placed in the cemetery on Friday before Decoration Day, 1971, so each person may be asked to register their name and address. The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met on May 1, 1971. Decoration Day service began at 11:00 a.m. with song, "Faith of our Fathers." Invocation was given by Rev. DeWitt Weaver. History of the  Green Hill Cemetery Association from the year 1850 was given by Mrs. Bob Conroy. Rev. James Caroll Wright brought the memorial address. Dismissed for lunch. The  Green Hill Cemetery Association met for the annual business meeting at 1:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mr. Dewey Blackstone and opened the meeting with prayer. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Unfinished business was called for by the president. In the absence of Mrs. Bob Conroy, chairman of the committee on the history of the cemetery, the secretary reported a new directory of the cemetery had been compiled and as of April 1, 1971, there were 756 graves in the cemetery. More time was needed to identify unmarked graves. Secretary thanked Mr. Paul Branch for the copy of the old directory which was kept by the late Mr. B.C. Branch; as it had been very helpful in making the new directory and marking graves. A register sheet and table were placed in the cemetery Friday evening before Decoration Day and!75 persons signed the register. A listing of the investments of the trust fund and income from these invest­ments was given out by Gene Fleming and explained by him.
