Biography: James Harris was born in North Carolina in 1795. At some time prior to 1812, his family moved into Georgia; and on the 18th day of June 1812, he enlisted in the Second Regiment of Georgia Militia as a soldier for a period of 6 months in the War of 1812 with Great Britain. He served 5 months and 7 days. Lucretia Jones was born in 1795; and she and James Harris were married in Green County, Georgia on November 10, 1817. The family moved to Tallapoosa County, Alabama and were living there in 1850 when James Harris made application to the United States for a land grant by virtue of his service in the War of 1812. In September, 1855, he made application for a pension by reason of his military service; and at that time stated he was a resident of Cass County, Texas. About the time of the Civil War; he moved to Titus County and settled in the Bridges Chapel community. James Harris and wife had eight children. These were Mack Harris; Matthew Harris; Lucretia, who married Tom Black; Eliza Harris, who married Alexander Cobb; Margaret Harris, who married Perryman T. Black; Annie, who married Wallace; Ephriam; and Priscilla.
